Today: senders are SMTP, plus SES through SES's SMTP interface.

Plan

  • Sender types that use each provider's HTTPS API: SendGrid, Mailgun, Postmark, and SES API (v2). These are often faster, and they report message IDs reliably.
  • Each type has its own settings form (API key, which is write-only, plus region or domain where needed) and a test send.
  • Bounce and complaint webhooks for each provider, following the SES/SNS design: signature checks and an allowlist. Their results go into the same message, contact and event records.
  • Pick the libraries carefully: prefer plain HTTPS calls over large SDKs, and pin versions.

Bounce/complaint webhooks for SendGrid, Mailgun and Postmark were not delivered in v0.15.0; tracked in Phase 13.1 (v0.15.1) as #73. Related: #75 nginx upstream re-resolution.
